Mindfulness or vipasanna meditation is one of the most important cornerstones in Buddhism. The late Buddhist scholar Dr Dhammananda succinctly described religion as "nothing more than the awareness of the mind". This statement encapsulates what religion or spirituality is about. Monks, Mountains and Magic: Explorations of Thailand (book)
Currently reading this. Bought it at Amazon. The book, published in 1990, gives some rare insights of Thai rural lifestyles which were often centred around its tudong brand of buddhism.
